About the Recipe
Every spring, as winter fades and fields turn golden with ripening crops, the festival of Holi arrives with colors, joy, and deep-rooted traditions. While most people associate Holi with vibrant powders and festive celebrations, there is a quieter, meaningful ritual that connects the festival to the land and harvest — Juwar Dhani.
Prepared from freshly harvested barley and roasted in the sacred fire of Holika Dahan, Juwar Dhani is more than just a seasonal treat. It symbolizes gratitude for a successful crop, prayers for prosperity, and the timeless bond between agriculture and spirituality.

Ingredients
1 packet of Juwar Dhani (you can find this at any indian grocery store, like Patel Brothers)
4 tbsp oil
2 tsp mustard seeds
2 tsp turmeric
1.5 tbsp red chili powder
salt to taste
3 tbsp powdered sugar or to your liking
4-6 fried papdi
Preparation
First take your juwar dhani and sift it through a sifter to let all small particles fall through
On low to medium heat add oil to the pan, let it heat up. To that you add mustard seeds, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt to taste, and immediately add in the juwar dhani. Give this a really good toss till all the spices have mixed well with the dhani. Add in the powdered sugar, mix well, and on low heat keep roasting the popcorn till slightly crisp or to your liking
In a frying pan, add in oil to deep fry some papdi, just 4-6 will do the trick. Once fried and cooled, break apart to create small pieces as pictured in the image above
In a mixing bowl or container mix together the roasted juwar dhani and papdi
Say a little prayer and enjoy this delish snack every holi or really whenever you want
